Animals of Duluth

North & Shore T-shirt Design

MY ROLE

As a designer I was asked to create a couple designs for North and Shore, a local goods store.

// A t-shirt for adults, with hand-drawn images of things that relate to Minnesota.

// A second design following the same format that would be printed on onsines and smaller t-shirts for children. This design was of animals that are native to Minnesota.

// I also created a tote bag design that would be used for a kids book club.

FINAL DESIGNS

PROJECT OVERVIEW

North and Shore is a small business located in Duluth offering a wide variety of books, apparel, goods, art, and more. A lot of the items are locally sourced and appeal to Minnesota’s North Shore.

BOOK BAG PROCESS
The book tote was for a children’s book club. The book club highlighted various Minnesota native authors and the bag would hold the books required for the readings as well as small goodies.
The intention with the design was to focus on Minnesota nature and show the immersive experience that comes along with reading.

The first design was focused on the natural aspect of Minnesota, with a kid reading in this immersive forest landscape.
The lines pictured about were supposed to highlight Northern Lights but we didn’t feel that was translated appropriately.

In the second design you can see the changes of the lines and how they seem to be coming out of the book. This could be interpreted as imagination and the scenery that someone transports to when reading.

The third direction is much more simple and the direction we ended up going with.
The stars and moon were then combined with the squiggles creating a magical experience coming out of the book.
